This is a vintage example of the Japanese national flag. it is made of wool, and measures 89 x 46 cms (35 x 18 inches). This flag which signified the Land of the Rising Sun, seems to be used mainly by the military now and has been superceded by a white flag with a red disc in the centre. The position of the sun off centre indicates maritime use. There are a few tiny holes, but these do not detract from the appearance too much and are to be expected in flags of this age. The colours are excellent and unfaded, There is a string at one side enclosed in white tape for attaching to a pole. This flag in in great condition and would serve on a small boat, or as a furnishing accessory in a variety of situations, home, halls, clubs and so on.

Vintage Japanese National Flag in wool
This is a good example of a vintage Australian flag in cotton, which measures 34 x 24 inches, with a string inside the short side to attach it to a flagpole. This is the Civil or Red Ensign which was flown between 1901 to 1954 by municipalities or private citizens on land. It is decorated with the Union Jack, the Commonwealth Star and the five stars of the constellation the Southern Cross. It is fairly uniformly faded and has some marks due to age and some small holes where the string is attached. It would be a great addition to a collection, or would serve as a furnishing accessory in a variety of situations, home, halls, clubs and so on.

Vintage Australian Civil Ensign in cotton
This is an American Naval Commissioning Pennant, which I acquired with the American Naval ensign, which I have listed separately. It is in excellent condition the colours are very bright and fresh. It has a metal eyelet on the vertical seam. It is made of wool with cotton appliqué stars, and measures 75 inches long and 3 1/4 inches wide at the hoist, with an 11 inch swallow tail. It is soiled from use towards the swallow tail and there is one small hole in the white fabric about 15 inches from the end. Please also have a look at the Ensign which I have listed separately.

Vintage American U.S. Naval Pennant pre 1959
This is a good example of a pre 1959 Naval American ensign, the Stars and Stripes, which has just 48 stars instead of the present number. This dates it from before 1959 after which other stars were added. It comes with a commissioning pennant of the same era I think and which I have listed separately. The flag is made of wool, with cotton appliqué stars and with metal eyelet holes on the vertical seam. It measures 79 x 40 inches, is in excellent condition and the colours are bright and fresh. the only signs of wear is slight soiling and some very small holes. It is stamped “US EHS 9”. Please also have a look at the Commissioning Pennant listed separately.

Vintage Union Jack Stitched in Wool Fabric
This is a vintage Royal Canadian Navy White Ensign Flag which is stamped “4 BREADTH” NAVAL WHITE ENSIGN” and the maker’s mark “Jones Tent & Awning Ltd. 194?”. I have been advised that this maker was based in Vancouver and that the Canadian Navy stopped using this ensign in 1965. It measures 69 inches by 34 inches and is in very good used condition, with slight fading of the colours. It is fitted with a rope in the vertical hem with brass Inglefield clips at top and bottom and two brass eyelets. It is double stitched appliqué in a firm cotton fabric. There are a couple of small brown marks and some grubby marks which are due to use and of course add to its character but there are no holes. This flag in in great condition and would serve as a furnishing accessory in a variety of situations.
