This is an antique machine knitted shawl in cream silk, probably dating from the Victorian period. It is very fine and light in weight and knitted in a design of large floral sprays and single sprigs. There is a border of smaller sprays round the edge and it has a fringe of 11 cms. It is almost square in shape and measures approximately 161 cms. x 152 cms. including the fringe. There are a few very small holes in the shawl which can be seen in the photographs but they are not noticeable and the shawl is very warm and light to wear and drapes beautifully.

Antique Cream Silk Knitted Shawl, fringed
This is beautiful example of a white work collar in very fine cotton, embroidered with delicate sprays of flowers and finely pointed leaves in a continuous line round the collar. The neck edge is finely hemmed and the outer edge is finished with small points. Some very small tucks have been taken at the centre back and at the sides. The collar measures just over 43 cms.(17 inches) round the neck edge and the outer edge measures approximately 122 cms.(48 inches), The depth of the collar is 16 cms. (6 1/4 inches) at the centre back and 27 cms (10 1/2 inches) at the front. There is a very small hole at the centre back and a small stain on one side which can be seen in the photo, otherwise the collar is in excellent condition. This is a lovely collar and would grace any collection or add authenticity to a period garment.

Antique Whitework Embroidered Collar, c 1800
This is a lovely example of a Victorian bodice for a young girl dating from the 1860s. It is made of fine cream silk and is fitted to t he waist, with a low neckline. It is shaped with darts and the upper part is gently padded. It is fully lined in cotton and boned at the front and centre back, which was fastened with lacing with small eyelet holes. The lacing cord is not present. The sleeves are lined and the outer layer is ruched silk to give volume. They are gathered on to a band of darker silk with a frill of silk underneath. The armholes are defined with piping. The bodice is trimmed both at the neck edge and round the sleeves with bobbin lace of a Bedfordshire type. The condition is really excellent - there are no faults in the fabric and no signs of wear, which is most unusual in a garment of such an age.

Antique Victorian Silk Bodice for young girl c1860
This is a lovely summer skirt from the late 19th Century, which is made from a firm cotton fabric in candy stripes of pink and white which are 1/4 inch/0.6 cms. wide on a blue background. It is tailored at the front to give a fairly flat effect and the back is gathered fully to fit over a bustle. There is also a deep pocket on the right hand side and the bottom hem is a separate piece of fabric of the same pattern. The skirt is fully lined in a firm white cotton fabric and the hem of the lining is an 11 inch deep section of the dress fabric. The waistband has several buttonholes in it, for attachment to a blouse. Measurements: Waist (measured flat) 23 ins, with hooks and eyes to increase this by half an inch, Front Length 42 1/2 inches The skirt is in excellent condition, very strong and wearable, and the only faults I can find are a couple of brown marks, one near the bottom (faint) and the other on the hem, both of which can be seen in the last two photos and a slight difference in colour strength between the applied hem section and the rest of the skirt.

Late Victorian Young Lady's Summer Skirt
This is an Edwardian reception gown of c.1901 in a cream silk satin with an overlay of tulle. It has three quarter length sleeves and the bodice has a folded portion of satin over the under layer. The waist has a fixed folded belt in satin and in the centre front there is a false buckle of pearls and tiny beads, from which hang two lengths of satin ribbon. The tulle over skirt is shorter at the front and curved towards the back and is trimmed with a silk fringe, as are the tulle sleeves which have a silk sleeve underneath. The bodice is lightly boned and fastens down the back with hooks and eyes. There is a flat bow at the waist at the back, and there are some old dress preservers covered in silk in poor condition at the armholes. The dress is in good condition for its age, the only problem is the lengths of silk ribbon hanging at the front, which are in poor condition and will need replacing. There are a few age spots on the bodice back near the armhole. This is a dress in a simple but very elegant style and very typical of its period.
