This is a small antique handkerchief in fine almost sheer cotton, with a scalloped border. It is embroidered in black and white with small flower sprays, and is I think intended for use during a period of mourning, as was customary in Victorian times. It measures almost 14 inches (35 cms.) square. It is in very good condition and would be an unusual addition to a collection.

Antique Victorian Mourning Handkerchief
This is a beautiful example of a cotton handkerchief in what is commonly described as Appenzell work, embroidery on cotton in very fine stitches in flowers and swirls. There are a variety of stitches, including satin stitch, pulled thread and french knot, and the edge is scalloped. The drawn on design can still be seen as the handkerchief is unused. This type of embroidery is a famous Swiss type but it is difficult to say where this particular piece was made, It could be Swiss or Asian. However the standard of workmanship is very high indeed. The handkerchief measures 30 cms (approx 12 inches) square. This is a lovely piece and valuable for a collection, or indeed for bridal wear - an heirloom! Postage to the U.K. is free, to the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zeeland, Asia £9 and the E.U. £8.

Vintage Appenzell Cotton Handkerchief
This is collection of three Weldons Crochet Magazines, published I believe in the 1920s, 9because of the dress styles in the advertisements). They each comprise a collection of different projects with good pictures and comprehensive instructions for making them and were published monthly. The first magazine contains Laces with corners for teacloths, tea cosy cover, an triangular inserts and instructions for the stitches used, the second has different edgings, narrow laces and simple doyleys, with instructions for the stitches used, and the third edgings for cloths, bedspreads runners etc. The magazines show some wear and are rather yellow in colour but are intact and can certainly be used.

Vintage Weldons Crochet Magazines, designs,pattern
This is a most unusual and rare example of a small antique lace horse for a child, which is adjustable in height. It is made of a variety of woods and has been much used, as can be seen by the wear on the stretcher. It stands 23 inches high and 14 inches wide and 13 inches deep. The original hinge (which was missing) at the centre front has been replaced with a modern fitment. There has been some damage in the distant past to the curved portion, including a crack part of the way round, but these have been repaired unobtrusively. I have not been able to find another example of an adjustable horse to compare it with. It is a most unusual piece and a real collector’s item! Please contact me by email to enquire about carriage costs. Personal collection is also possible by appointment only.

Rare Antique Adjustable Lace Horse for Child
This is a lovely example of an 18th Century veil in fine Honiton lace which is approximately 43 inches square. There is a wreath of flowers in the centre with a single motifs inside and the veil is dotted with tiny flowers. About 5 inches in from the border is a square of small leaves. The border itself if decorated with swags and leaves. The condition is excellent, the only flaws I can find are a few tiny brown marks in two or three places and a couple of tiny holes, but these are almost unnoticeable. Attached to the veil is a provenance “Old Honiton Veil believed to be a gift of Queen Charlotte (wife of George III)”. This is a beautiful piece of lace with historical associations which could be worn as a wedding veil or be a welcome addition to a lace collection.

Antique handkerchief with Honiton lace
This is a splendid example of a Bertha collar, which was gathered on to the neckline of a dress, in cream Irish Carrickmacross lace. This lace is part appliqué and part needlework on very fine net. The design is very traditional with sprays of shamrock leaves, ribbon bows and areas of needle weaving. The collar measures 41 inches on the inner neck edge and 77 inches round the outer edge. The depth of the collar is just over 7 inches. The collar is in good condition but there is a stain on the back which can be seen in the fourth photograph. There is also a tiny hole in the net near the edge at the back. This is a stunning example of its type and would grace any collection or period costume. I welcome payment by Paypal from all customers, but would accept payment from U.K. buyers by personal cheque or postal order as well. In the case of payment by cheque, despatch of the goods would take place after clearance of the cheque.

Antique Bertha Collar in Carrickmacross lace
This is a large length of antique hand made Normandy Blonde bobbin lace, made of silk, which is cream in colour. The lace is of the classic Fern design which is repeated throughout the length and the ground is of the simple Lille type. It measures 89 inches (2.26 metres) long and 18 inches (45.5 cms.) wide. The lace is a deep cream colour, but appears much lighter in the photographs. The lace is in excellent condition and the only damage is two small holes near the top edge near one end which can be seen in the last photograph. This is a wonderful example of an extremely wide piece of this antique lace, constructed using hundreds of bobbins at a time, producing a very delicate and light weight fabric. Truly a collector's piece!
