Antique Pair of Scissors with blades in handles

Antique Pair of Scissors with blades in handles

DescriptionThis is an antique rare example of steel scissors with folding blades in the handles which are faced with mother of pearl and indented along the edges. There is also a spring in between the handles. The knives of just over and inch long, open up completely, The scissors measure 3 1/4 inches long. There is some rust present on the blades and the tip of one of the blades and one of the points of the scissors are missing. This is an interesting pair of scissors, for what purpose I am not sure but perhaps they were for sewing or drizzling, a very fashionable occupation in the early 19th Century when gold braid and threads was removed from clothing and even embroidery for reuse in other ways.
