Antique Reception Gown c.1901 in silk satin

Antique Reception Gown c.1901 in silk satin

DescriptionThis is an Edwardian reception gown of c.1901 in a cream silk satin with an overlay of tulle. It has three quarter length sleeves and the bodice has a folded portion of satin over the under layer. The waist has a fixed folded belt in satin and in the centre front there is a false buckle of pearls and tiny beads, from which hang two lengths of satin ribbon. The tulle over skirt is shorter at the front and curved towards the back and is trimmed with a silk fringe, as are the tulle sleeves which have a silk sleeve underneath. The bodice is lightly boned and fastens down the back with hooks and eyes. There is a flat bow at the waist at the back, and there are some old dress preservers covered in silk in poor condition at the armholes. The dress is in good condition for its age, the only problem is the lengths of silk ribbon hanging at the front, which are in poor condition and will need replacing. There are a few age spots on the bodice back near the armhole. This is a dress in a simple but very elegant style and very typical of its period.  DateLate Victorian/Edwardian  Price£190.00   221.92   $236.44
